How to get back missing music after updating to iOS 4.2

Reports are coming in that some users are experiencing a disappearing music bug after updating their iPhones, iPod touches and iPads to iOS 4.2.1. If you happen to be hit by this bug, never fear your music hasn't actually gone anywhere, it's just hidden. Here's how to sort it out, and get your iPod app looking a bit less of a ghost town.
  • Plug the offending iDevice into your computer
  • Find it in iTunes
  • Click the expand arrow next to your iDevice
  • Click on 'Music' under your iDevice
  • Pick a song and play it
  • Sync your iDevice
Now you can fire up the iPod app on your iDevice, which should now be showing either all of your music back in its rightful place, or tell you that your music library is being updated, after which you should be good to go. Simples.
