2011 Brno World Superbike QP1 Result: Checa Takes Provisional Pole

The perception that the Ducatis would suffer at the horsepower-hungry Brno circuit has been confounded on Friday, with Carlos Checa taking provisional pole in the afternoon's first session of qualifying. The Althea Ducati rider was a quarter of a second faster than Jakub Smrz, the Effenbert Liberty Ducati rider having set the fastest time in this morning's free practice session. A pair of Yamahas followed the Ducatis, Marco Melandri well ahead of his teammate Eugene Laverty, while Alitalia Aprilia riderMax Biaggi ended the day as 5th fastest.

BMW Italia's James Toseland withdrew from the round after trying the bike in FP1. Toseland is still recovering from a wrist injury sustained during testing, and is fighting to be fit for his home WSBK round at Silverstone later this month.
