Blog Post: PBS seeks travelers for new reality TV show

Pssst. Want a free trip and a chance to be on TV? If you have a “lively personality,” you may be in luck.

In October, PBS will debut a reality show called “Getting Away Together.” It will feature groups of four to 10 people vacationing together at a lakeside chalet, mountain cabin or beachfront cottage somewhere in the United States. Thirteen episodes will be taped in 13 different destinations, including Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Hilton Head, S.C., so 13 groups of friends or families are needed for the first season alone.

The show will be presented by the Emmy-winning production company behind “Great Hotels” (hosted by Samantha Brown) and the Discover Vacation Homes awareness initiative. It aims to highlight the trend of friends and families sharing a vacation rental.

Want to be a star? Go to the “Getting Away Together” website. You must be 21 to enter and be available for four consecutive days for filming. The producers will cover vacation home rental, local travel, activities, recreation and food expenses, but you’ll need to spring for your own airfare. Currently, there is no deadline to enter.

Don’t forget your charisma. According to the producers, “You should have lively personalities and a great story viewers will care about.” And, perhaps, a willingness to let people see you snoring in your luxury lakeside chalet or strutting around in a Speedo at your fabulous beachfront cottage.
