Eye-controlled Laptop Presented At CeBit
siliconbits writes "Microsoft is rumoured to be one of their partners; maybe they'll built it in the next Kinect. 'Computer manufacturer Lenovo has partnered with Swedish startup Tobii Technology to launch the world's first eye controlled laptop which will be on display as from today at CeBIT in Hannover.'"
Survival Lab is a fun pixelated game where dying doesn't matter
In most games, dying is a bad thing. You have to start all over again, or at least revert to the last save point and lose some progress. Not so in Survival Lab: in this pixelated gem you play as a lone individual pitted against ruthless weapons in a sealed chamber. You have to run, jump and duck, collecting little yellow things (I have no idea what they're called).
For each donut-like yellow thing you pick up, you gain a bit of experience. If you manage to collect several in a row without getting hit, this counts as a combo. You can see my mad combo skills in the screenshot, of course. Collecting combos is a good thing, because a ten-point combo gives you for more experience than just collecting ten dounts one by one (getting hit in-between).
Having experience is useful, because once you die, you get to a screen where you can upgrade your skills. You can learn to run faster, double-jump (and then double-jump higher), and duck. You can also gain more armour so that getting hit won't kill you so quickly.
What makes this simple game so addictive is that when you die, your experience doesn't reset. You just go back to the same level, or another level of your choosing, and keep accumulating more and more experience. Lots of fun, especially if you're into the whole retro-gaming thing.

Blog Post: Zimbio launches Celebrity Places, powered by Bing Maps
If you're suffering from the latest epidemic, known as Bieber Fever, you may want to check out Zimbio’s newest feature: Celebrity Places for the cure. Zimbio is an interactive magazine publisher with a focus on entertainment, style, current events and a bevy of other pop culture topics.
Their latest feature combines the accuracy and richness of Bing Maps with Zimbio’s high resolution photography of your favorite celebs. The idea is to synch a personality spotted in the wild with a location on the map, be it on the red carpet or grabbing a latte between shoots. There are over 10,000 geotagged photos on Zimbio.com in 1,000-plus cities and they are just getting started. Once you’ve found your celeb in the wild, you can find out more about them on Bing by clicking on the Bing logo and searching
Each celebrity has their own Places page, which will no doubt create an interesting destination for the Justin Bieber and Rihanna fans alike. The new feature is available today and is discoverable throughout the site.
The team at Zimbio did an amazing job integrating their high quality content with the Bing Maps v7 API. So, go to www.zimbio.com/places and check it out. The site was already stellar without the added geotagged content, so you will need to somehow substitute your Facebook browsing time with Zimbio Places...not enough hours in a day. Yet Another Entry Into The 404 Page Hall Of Fame
As we've mentioned before, having an awesome 404 Page is a source of pride among startups. From the Twitter Fail Whale, to the Google Fail Whale (of course)�to the Digg Fail Ox to Blippy's Fail Double Rainbows you have to admit that these things freaking make your day. Social gaming startup EightBit.me (which has yet to launch whatever its planning on doing with its armies of 8-bit Twitter avatars) has moved away from the fail anthropomorphic animals and memes, to yes, a Fail Nintendo Game Cartridge, above. The "Blow me" here is referring to the once sacred art of blowing into video games to get them to work AND NOT ANYTHING ELSE.

As more and more devices go mobile and these devices become more and more powerful, chipmakers must also take the energy efficiency into account. Harvard graduate student Wonyoung Kim has developed and demonstrated an on-chip, multi-core voltage regulator (MCVR) that he says could allow the creation of "smarter" smartphones, slimmer laptops and more energy efficient data centers by more closely matching the power supply to the demand of the chip."

Higher ticket prices may leave some people out in the cold this year, but those eager to leave home this spring break can still find great deals to popular destinations. Our famed Fareologists at Bing Travel have issued their 2011 Spring Break Forecast and uncovered that the overall average price for shaking the winter chill this year is $489, a 10.5% increase from last year’s $443 average.
Whether you want to go to Florida or overseas, hit the mountain slopes or relax on the beaches of Hawaii, Bing has everything you need to make great travel decisions. Here are the top takeaways on what our Fareologists uncovered:
- Given their popularity as destinations for spring break, it’s not surprising to find airfares to warm weather and ski destinations up more than 15% this year – but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a deal. Flights from Seattle to Salt Lake City are down about 7% from last year, as are flights from Dallas to Jacksonville. Deals can also be found to Cancun, Mexico’s spring break hotspot, with fares from Philadelphia down 8% and fares from Atlanta down 16%.
- If you want to escape somewhere warm, Florida is the ticket! Many of the best deals of the season are on flights to Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Here are a few of the lowest average fares to Florida:
- Atlanta to West Palm Beach, $181
- Boston to Jacksonville, $233
- Chicago to West Palm Beach, $286
- Philadelphia to Orlando, $217
- San Francisco to Tampa, $300
- If you want to cross an ocean, airfare prices are lower this year compared to last year for several European destinations. And since spring is the shoulder season in Europe, you can benefit from great hotel rates and fewer crowds. Flights from the U.S. to Europe with the greatest drop in average price since last year:

Be flexible. Travelers can save big by avoiding the peak travel times during spring break. For example, you can save $25 to $125 per ticket by travelling from a Monday to Monday or Tuesday to Tuesday instead of from Saturday to Saturday. It’s best to get a head start on travel and schedule your trip for the first week of March rather than waiting until mid-April to escape the grind. Traveling during the first or last week of March as opposed to mid-March can save travelers $25 per ticket. Traveling in early April as opposed to the middle of April will save travelers an average of $30 to $50 per ticket. Use available tools. Whether you’re looking for sandy beaches, snowy slopes, or scenic European vistas, Bing Travel has the tools you need to plan the perfect getaway. Use Price Predictor to check if rates are rising or dropping so you can save money on flights by buying your tickets at just the right time. Most airfare price drops last less than 48 hours, so be ready to jump when a fare falls. Travelers with specific travel dates in mind and for whom flexibility isn’t an option are advised to set Bing Travel Fare Alerts (LiveID required) that will notify them if the fares for their trips drop, allowing them to catch the best fares. MLB At Bat 11 apps for iPhone, iPad now available
With the wintry weather that seems to be hitting a lot of the U.S. today, most people probably aren't thinking about the start of the 2011 Major League Baseball season. There are two sure signs of spring today -- the MLB players started playing Spring Training exhibition games today, and the MLB At Bat 11 apps for iPhone/iPod touch and iPad are now available for sale in the App Store.
At this point you'll be able to watch about 150 Spring Training games through a free preview of MLB.TV, and listen to available radio broadcasts of Spring Training games. Like the 2010 version of the app, you can get a close-up batter's view of every at-bat, breaking news, schedules, rosters, and players stats. The description of the app notes that additional features and functionality will be released for Opening Day on March 31.
Major League Baseball apparently didn't listen to user complaints from last year, however. The iPad and iPhone apps are still separate apps, and each costs $14.99. On top of that insult, the league advertises in articles found in the app. Once the MLB season begins, you'll be able to watch one free televised game per day and listen to as many games on Internet radio as you'd like, but there's no way to purchase a package to watch all games for a specific team in the app or beam the games to an Apple TV via AirPlay.
Early reviews on the App Store are saying that the performance of the MLB At Bat 11 app does seem to have improved over last year's iteration, which was notable for slow loading of articles and videos.
